MAIDENHEAD, 2 miles north This busy riverside town offers excellent shopping & leisure facilities, including the Magnum leisure pool & a new multi screen cinema complex. Maidenhead also offers a very popular riverfront & adjacent park, ideal for a stroll along the river. Further along the river is the pretty but historic village of Cookham, again another popular local & tourist haunt. BRAY, 1.5 miles north east The ancient riverside village of Bray, home of the rich & famous, offers many fine old buildings, pubs & restaurants. Also home to the famous Bray Studios, where many of Britain's finest horror films were made. HOLYPORT, 2 miles south Small village with several old buildings centred around a village green complete with pond, & large areas of open common land, ideal for walking. MARLOW, 7 miles north Pretty riverside town nestling below steep wooded hills which offers locals & visitors alike a varied range of restaurants, bars & shops. HIGH WYCOMBE , 10 miles north High Wycombe is a busy industrial & commercial centre situated by the M40, which also offers excellent shopping & leisure facilities. Nearby West Wycombe is a beautiful historic village owned by the National Trust. Nearby West Wycombe Park is the superb Palladian-style house once owned by Sir Francis Dashwood, who founded the notorious 18th century Hell Fire Club which held meetings in the nearby caves.
